I interweave propaganda campaigns from the pharmaceutical industry, religious indoctrination and political ideologies to compose a three-act recording that encapsulates some of the topics explored in my photography series Depression. Possession. Repression.
Promotional vinyl records were distributed by pharmaceutical companies during marketing campaigns in the 1950’s. The properties of a tranquilizer were proclaimed on side A, and classical music was recorded on a record’s B side. In this work I use these original recordings as background and overlay male voices to represent various forms of patriarchy in medicine, religion and government.
On the first act, I represent how pregnancy becomes a pathological event requiring intervention from the pharmaceutical industry; On the second act, I include the recorded litany by a catholic priest financed by the C.I.A. to instigate anti-comunist fervor on the streets of Brazil in preparation for a military coup; And, on the final act, I use the original radio broadcast from the Brazilian Senate historical archives announcing the establishment of a dictatorial regime and the 1968 suspension of civil rights in Brazil.
This work was originally conceived as an audio rendition. The graphic elements were compillated for a video installation being presented at Les Arches Citoyennes in Paris. A group exhibition became the culmination of La.boratoire Transatlantique d’Expérimentation - La.Ima with curation by Ioanna Mello and Olenka Carrasco.

Entrelaço campanhas de propaganda da indústria farmacêutica, endoutrinação religiosa e ideologias políticas para compor uma gravação em três atos que resumem tópicos explorados em minha série fotográfica Depressão. Possessão. Repressão.
Discos promocionais de vinil eram distribuídos por empresas farmacêuticas durante campanhas de marketing em 1950. As propriedades de um tranquilizante prescrito durante gravidez eram proclamadas no lado A e a música clássica era gravada no lado B do disco. Neste trabalho utilizo estas gravações originais como pano de fundo e sobreponho vozes masculinas para representar várias formas de patriarcado prevalentes em medicina, religião ou política.
No primeiro ato, represento como gravidez se torna um evento patológico que requer intervenção da indústria farmacêutica; No segundo ato, incluo a ladainha de um padre católico que na década de 1960 foi financiado pela C.I.A. para instigar o fervor anticomunista nas ruas do Brasil em preparação para um golpe militar; E no terceiro ato, utilizo a transmissão de rádio original disponível no arquivo histórico do Senado brasileiro anunciando o estabelecimento do regime militar, e a suspensão de direitos civis em 1968 no Brasil.
Este trabalho foi originalmente concebido como um trabalho de áudio. Os elementos gráficos foram compilados para uma videoinstalação para o espaço Les Arches Citoyennes em Paris. Em Junho de 2024, uma exposição coletiva será resultado do La.boratoire Transatlantique d’Expérimentation - La.Ima sob a curadoria de Ioanna Mello e Olenka Carrasco.

DEPRESSION. POSSESSION. REPRESSION is part of a series of works called AMERI_CANA where I explore spaces between myth and reality, tales and memory, history and fables. In passed down stories, the unfinished tracings of the diaspora of multiple generations leaves gaps that welcome the imagination and delusional fantasies of identity, while historical documents eliminate any minimization of our ancestral colonial roles - from the Brazilian northeast to the American northeast - From sugarcane to a dream of America.
